2019 Staying Out: Pioneers of Pride
2019.
BB and the Diva
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, which marked the beginning of queer liberation, AIGA Portland Design for Good and Wilde Town collaborated with 25 gay rights pioneers who championed visibility, equality and inclusion in Portland. I was selected to honor comic book artist Rupert Kinnard.
Born in 1954, Rupert is an African-American cartoonist, who created the first ongoing gay/lesbian-identified African-American comic-strip characters: the Brown Bomber and Diva Flambé Touché.
