2017 A.D.I.D.A.S. (All Day I Dream About Sex)

A tribute to Jonathan Davis of Korn


            The most iconic look from the Nü-Metal era (late 90’s - early 00’s) paired with the unofficial footwear of the subgenre: the Gazelle. In 1997, at the tender age of 13, I stayed up real late watching Loud (MuchMusic’s metal show) and saw the video for “A.D.I.D.A.S.”.  Heavy, raw, stylish… and oddly funny. The entire band dies in a car crash and comes back to life as zombies slam dancing inside body bags. The chorus of the song is Davis chanting “All day I dream about sex / All day I dream about fucking…"

            That same year I moved to San Jose, CA and eventually started my own rap-metal band. Terrible is an understatement, but this is also where I began my design career. Websites, cover art, shirts and flyers – all done off a bootleg copy of Adobe Photoshop.





            As corny (pun) as it may sound, the emerging Nü-Metal sound mixed with suburban teenage angst gave me the initial confidence to express how I felt – regardless the medium. Some of my fondest memories of my teenage years were being in our drummer’s living room with friends writing songs and eventually playing shows was the gateway to exercising creative freedom.
 


           When I think back about all the music and fashion that influenced me most - I’d be lying if I ignored the these iconic videos and photoshoots.
